This blog should be called Lisbeth Eats…Noodle Soups or Lisbeth Eats…Asian food. I eat out at Asian restaurants A LOT! I think it’s because I don’t know how to make many Asian dishes at home. And I especially love noodle soups – Pho, Bun Bo Hue, Ramen, Udon, Naeng Myun, Jjam Ppong, Kalgooksoo and Hong Kong style egg noodle soups to name a few – just a few. ūüėČ (more…)

So much for a week of Irish food…

Let’s see. I did a pork roast, made a few loaves of brown bread, had smoked salmon, drank pots and pots of tea and ate chocolate biscuits. Chocolate biscuits are considered Irish no? I have this thing where I can’t go without Asian food for more than a few days. I mean, I could but… for instance,¬†I could be in Italy enjoying the most amazing seafood¬†or pastas¬†everyday on holiday, but as soon as I get back home, the¬†first meal has to be¬†something Korean. In a strange way, the stinky kimchi, soups, stews, grilled meats, marinated vegetables and white rice cleanse my palate. WHAT?!?!¬†Am I the only one who’s like this? It’s kind of weird if you think about it because I was born and raised here in the states and although I did grow up with Korean food, I probably ate just as much American food, if not more. I wonder why I don’t crave burgers as soon as I land? Anyway, while I attempted to go the whole week making/eating at least one Irish meal a day, we ended up eating out a bit more than usual and when I did cook, I made foods from all over the place.¬†My themed weeks haven’t been very consistent this time around. I mean to call¬†it Irish¬†week and only make two¬†dishes…? tsk tsk tsk. Must do better next time! (more…)

I’ve been feeling a little homesick for Ireland these past few days. Am I allowed to use the word ‘homesick’ if I’ve never actually lived there? I’ve¬†visited there¬†so many times, it’s like I’ve lived there. Seriously, nearly every page of my passport has green ink on it! I should really just get an Irish passport already, I hate waiting in the Non-EU line at customs! I tried going through with Kevin before, but nope, they accepted him and I was told to go back into the Non-EU line. So I waited and waited and when I finally reached the Customs official,¬†he asked me where my husband was. Next time Kevin, you’re¬†waiting¬†with me!¬†I don’t know where this sudden longing to be back in Ireland is coming from. Maybe it’s¬†because we’ve been drinking loads of Barry’s Tea and we don’t have proper biscuits and snacks to have with it. HAHA. Maybe it’s because we know we won’t be traveling much this year and that makes me miss my in-laws a bit more than usual. But anyways, this desire to be in Ireland has inspired me to cook Irish dishes all week. Sometimes, I feel bad for only making Korean or Italian dishes at home. Meat and potatoes have turned into kimchi and rice or pasta and salads in this house. So I dedicate this week to you my dear. I’ll cook all your favorite dishes, save for Steak and Kidney Pie.¬†I still haven’t a clue how to make that. (more…)

Do you have a favorite Chinese restaurant? I had 2 until last week, now I have 3! My go-to places are Peking Gourmet Inn in Falls Church, VA and Full Key Restaurant in Wheaton, MD. There was a time when driving the distance to Virginia, DC and Montgomery County¬†was not a big deal, but these days I like to stick closer to home and explore the charm of Baltimore. Don’t get me wrong, I still like going down there, but you can find many of the same shops in Howard County and Baltimore now. That said, there is no place like Peking Gourmet Inn and Full Key around here! So to me, as long as they keep serving up their delicious menu, it’ll always be worth the drive down (please let there be no traffic on 295/95!). It¬†would be nice if there was a good authentic Chinese restaurant closer to home. What? There is? Grace Garden in Odenton you say? Thanks Kat and HowChow! A new restaurant to add to my go-to list.
