jja jang myunMy favorite Korean food as a kid was Jja Jang Myun. I could eat bowls and bowls of these delicious black bean noodles and when there were no more noodles, I’d mix the leftover sauce into a bowl of freshly steamed white rice and make Jja Jang Bop. Just needed to take out the tupperware holding grandma’s kimchi from the fridge and I’d enjoy a most satisfying meal. 😉 (more…)

Has it really been 10 days since my last post? My word, the days are flying by all too quickly! Have been meaning to put up more recipes as I have been cooking up a storm in our kitchen. If you’ve seen me around lately, you’ll know that although I haven’t been posting, I definitely have been eating! 😮 🙂 😮 I blame it on the weather! 😉 Hibernation mode on. Last night, we had our first snow. And today, we brought out all of our winter coats and jackets ready for the cold winter season ahead. (more…)

This blog should be called Lisbeth Eats…Noodle Soups or Lisbeth Eats…Asian food. I eat out at Asian restaurants A LOT! I think it’s because I don’t know how to make many Asian dishes at home. And I especially love noodle soups – Pho, Bun Bo Hue, Ramen, Udon, Naeng Myun, Jjam Ppong, Kalgooksoo and Hong Kong style egg noodle soups to name a few – just a few. 😉 (more…)

Guess where we’re going for lunch today? You got it, Hangari Noodle Company in Hanoori Town in Catonsville, MD. Oops, I suppose the title of this post gave it away. It’s been about a month now since they opened and I’ve been waiting for a cold autumn day to write about them. It’s my ploy to entice you all to head over there and check it out. 😉 There’s just something so comforting about eating a hot bowl of noodle soup on an overcast day like today. (more…)

I have a problem over-buying groceries…sometimes. Yes, only sometimes. I’m usually very good at not letting produce go to waste. It usually happens when I step foot inside Costco. I know what you’re thinking – IT’S COSTCO! I wanted to make carne asada for Kevin and well, instead of going to the normal supermarket or butchers to get enough steak for 2, I ended up picking up a pack of meat from Costco to feed a little army 😉 . A smart shopper would use only what’s needed and freeze the rest. But me, I marinated all of the meat and got my thumbs ready to text friends and family to come over for a home cooked meal. Ah sure, I might not always be a smart shopper but you can always count on me to be a generous host! (more…)

Yesterday’s post about wild herbs and foraging got me thinking about mushrooms. Sure you can find mushrooms year-round in the supermarket, but I was craving something tastier than your usual Portobello, Shitake and White Button mushrooms. It’s hard to find the good ones in the shops like Chanterelles, Hen of the Woods, Hedgehog, and Porcini (my favorite). Autumn is mushroom season! Some foraging knowledge would definitely come in handy right about now. 🙂 I bet there are blankets of wild mushrooms out in the nearby forests waiting to be picked. However, It’s not very likely that I will be foraging this season (I’d probably pick all the poisonous ones HAHA). So I did the next best thing. I went out to the Baltimore’s Farmers Market this morning under the JFX bridge and picked up some delicious funghi from the mushroom stall.  (more…)

Sunday brunch is a meal I enjoy very much and yesterday’s brunch was especially enjoyable with Kevin’s brother joining us from Ireland. He was passing through Baltimore for less than 24 hours. Very short visit! Wish he could’ve stayed longer! We planned to go out for Korean BBQ as soon as he got in Saturday night, but we could tell he was pretty wrecked from all the traveling. So instead, we had a quiet night in with Five Guys bacon cheeseburgers and fries and a nice bottle of red wine. It was a lovely night catching up on everything that’s been going on back home since our last visit. It’s funny listening to Kevin and his brother talk and joke around. It was like we were back in Ireland! Maybe I’m just used to Kevin’s accent or (oh, Kevin’s not going to like me saying this…) maybe Kevin is sounding more American 😉 , but I find their accents to be very different from each other. It took me a good 15 minutes to adjust my ears to understand what my brother-in-law was saying HAHA. (more…)

Every few months, I place a rather large order on Tommy Moloney’s online shop for Irish speciality meats and products. I order corned beef, cocktail sausages, breakfast sausages, rashers (Irish bacon), black pudding and white pudding. Before I knew about the site, whenever we’d have a taste for something Irish, I’d either have to make it from scratch (so basically just shepherd’s pie) or go out to James Joyce Irish pub in Harbor East. They do a delicious Irish potato soup and I really like their bangers and mash with onion gravy. By the way, bangers are Irish style sausages. Funny name, I know 😉 (more…)

I woke up this morning craving iced coffee and a glazed donut. There’s a Dunkin’ Donuts just up the road, but I was thinking of something more special from the Donut Shack in Severna Park, MD. Kevin got up before me (like every morning) and when I went downstairs he already had a pot of tea made for us. 🙂 Maybe we’ll swing by the Donut Shack later in the day. Oh wait! It’s Sunday, football’s on all day! Will have to trick Kevin into leaving the house. (more…)
