Anytime I’m in Ellicott City and in need of a hot cuppa, I head over to the Bean Hollow on Main Street in Old Ellicott City. I grew up nearby and I’ve been going to this spot since high school. It was Riverside Coffee then. It’s a great local coffee shop that’s very cozy and welcoming. I wish there were more gems like the Bean Hollow around the suburbs. I’m not going to lie, I’m a Dunkin’ Donuts coffee addict and I will get an occasional specialty drink from Starbucks. But if I had the choice between big corporate coffee retail outlets or the small independent local coffee shop, I’ll always choose the latter. Having said that, I won’t go to any ol’ mom and pop shop. The local joints have to be good! There are so many big corporate franchises or generic average places around. You have to really care about what you’re selling and offer a good product, then I will be your lifelong loyal fan and customer!
We had a meeting in the area the other day and stopped by for a quick pick me up afterwards. We parked just outside in a spot that was paid for an additional 30 minutes. In Old Ellicott City, each parking spot along Main Street has a number and you punch the number into the parking meter before you pay. Our spot happened to have 30 minutes remaining. Free parking! Yay! That morning in Fed Hill, someone gave us their parking ticket with an hour left on it too. I love when this happens. What a lucky parking day!
Kevin got a cappuccino and I had a Dirty Chai (Chai latte with a shot of espresso).
This was a cute sign we saw outside of Bean Hollow promoting their seasonal drinks menu. I love whimsical creative hand drawn signs like this.
Bean Hollow is really in the holiday spirit with their decor. There were skeletons on the cold drinks case and black weblike fabric strewn along the ceilings and walls with spiders spread throughout. BEAN HOLLOWeen! 😉
The menu board and sidewalk chalk board brought back memories of when Kevin and I used to own a Wing and Sub shop in Baltimore. I would draw up cute little signs to advertise new flavors or food items we were featuring on the menu. I really enjoy drawing signs and crafting with paper and was delighted to see such creative signs on display here at Bean Hollow. Here is one that I worked on at our shop. The ‘Orange Chicken’ is my favorite! HAHA.
Here are some signs I made for a local church fundraiser/bazaar.
Fun! Now I suddenly feel like bringing out my markers and some poster board while sipping on a Pumpkin Spice Latte from Bean Hollow. It’s made with real pumpkin, quite lovely! Hmmm… Anyone looking for an amateur sign maker? 😉
